To The Dreamers: The second half!

To the dreamers, wide-eyed believers, hanging on to hope by a thread
To the soulful, heart open hopeful, keep on charging ahead
'Cause when you feel it, once you see it, and you breathe it, it's unforgettable
When you know it, once you know it, and you hold it, it's unforgettable

These are some of the words to my favorite for KING & COUNTRY song, "To the Dreamers".  Basically had to hold back from a full-on freakout when I saw them in concert last November and this is the song they opened with.  Oh, who am I kidding...I freaked out big time! :)

This past Monday, March 2, I officially hit the halfway point of my VISTA year!  It doesn't surprise me that this song has been running through my head intermittently since then.  I was thinking about what's gone on since I started to now...a brief recap:

-1 AmeriCorps rally in Louisville, literally a week after I started
-1 Canon eOS Rebel t3i that I secretly want for myself after my GA days are done and over with (Kidding!)
-Four days in Abingdon, VA, helping build 2 high tunnels
-Two trips to Floyd County, helping build 2 tunnels
-About half a dozen newsletters and more than a dozen blogs (GA-related, not my own)
-Two rescheduled trips to Hazard...shooting for St. Patrick's Day- fingers crossed!
-3 snow days
-1 day and a half of working from home. Not sure if I'll do that again.
-1 rescheduled SOAR Summit a la Snowpocalypse 2015- rescheduled for May 11!
-1 presentation on grant writing
-1 presentation on blogging
-1 All-Hands Gathering, in which I got to meet many of our site coordinators.
-1 blog that got some attention from the CNCS :)  (You can read it here if you would like)
-Four trips to Greenhouse 17, three for high tunnels, one for a day of celebration
-Two trips to the "Starship Enterprise", our nickname for the UK greenhouse where we're seeding flats
-Three afternoons in the GA garden, where I amassed mass quantities of yummy food!
-Two visits to our site in London, where we almost got stranded on an overly-ambitious trolley
-50 some odd reports collated...and counting...

There's plenty more to that, and plenty more to come as well.  But it's kind of hard to believe that six months has already come and gone.  As I've continued working for Grow and thinking on the experiences I've had, and the awesome, awesome co-workers that I'm privileged to call my team, I think of where I came from.  I didn't really notice it then, but since I've walked away from there, I realized just how...toxic...the environment sometimes was, and it really hurt my confidence and self-esteem, two things that I never really had issues with before.  But all it takes is one instance.  As crazy as it sounds, I'm grateful for those moments...yes, even the not-so-pretty ones, because it led me to exactly where I am right now.  And it's beyond worth it!

I dreamt of working for Berea College for a long time.  Now I'm there.  I don't know how long it'll last, but I'll thank God for the time there, however long it may be.  He knows, and that's enough.  If you get anything out of my musings and brief recollections down memory lane, it's this: Don't EVER let go of your dreams.  Chances are they'll come around, and it'll probably be when you least expect it!

God knows you question your courage
And some days I can't walk for stumbling
If we could only see what we're becoming
So keep on, keeping on, keeping on...

FDR said this. It was in an episode of "House of Cards", and I was FLOORED by how much it fits the mission of VISTA perfectly!
