Thankful for 2015, looking ahead, and gratitude
Well hello 2016! It's so very nice to meet you!
I have to admit, 2015 was a pretty dandy year. I'd say one of the biggest highlights was finishing my VISTA year, but not before meeting some pretty incredible people along the way. Getting to know these folks and sharing life with them outside the confines of VISTA-related dog-and-pony shows and other events really enriched not just my VISTA year, but the year as a whole. We shared some good food, maybe more than a few drinks, stories of our service and beyond, and too many laughs that probably should have had us all thrown out. Plus, if I had never agreed to becoming a VISTA, I would have missed out on what I believe is my "dream" opportunity, and that's working for Berea College. Holy smokes, I'm a lucky gal.
Personally, 2015 took me on a lot of different rides, and while some things didn't go quite as I'd hoped, I really learned to value and appreciate just what a true friend means, and how so. very. thankful I am for mine. My friends come from many different walks of life; many of them have stories that would stop you dead in your tracks. While many of my friends have been my friends for a number of years, there's just a few that have only been with me for a few months. I've shared parts of my life and my soul with them, and despite the distance and life ambitions that separate us, we encourage each other and make time for each other when we can. At the end of the day, it's all I can ask for, truly.
So now it's Day 1 of 2016, and while I can't completely speak for what is to come, I can say that I'm genuinely looking forward to it. Some exciting things have already been planned, and I honestly can't wait to see what God has in store for not just myself, but for all of those who are journeying through life with me. I'd say the fact that I'm about to meet up with some friends for dinner here in about half an hour (remember this?) means that 2016 is off to a pretty good start :)
One last thing: Kelly and I are undertaking a small project this year. Every day, we're writing one thing we're thankful for on a sticky note and taking a picture of it. We're doing this to [try to] break the crazy cycle of negativity that litters social media and heck, the world in general. We're hoping it'll shift our mindsets to less complaining and more gratitude. The album is on my Facebook, and you can keep up with it here.
All right, 2016. I'm ready for ya!
