In lieu of Christmas Cards

Greetings, one and all! And a happy December to you! :)

Y'all, it is a COLD one here in Berea! Even woke up to a bit of the white stuff...first one this season!

So, normally Kelly and I spend a weekend writing and sending out Christmas cards. But, given our life courses as of recent, the distance makes it a bit challenging to coordinate. Totally no hard feelings, by the way! We're off in our own little corners of Kentucky, kicking tail and making it happen. Or at least trying to...

Having said all of that, here is our Christmas "card", for anyone and everyone who would like to read it!

Dear Friends,

Can you believe that 2016 is almost at an end? It seems like just yesterday Kelly and I were ringing in the year at a local pub of ours...And now here we are, 3 weeks until 2017. And it has been a good one!

The biggest and most notable change amongst the Korb sisters is that we are no longer living under the same roof anymore! Yes, that's right! After 3 years at her former position, Kelly was sensing a nudge to expand her career horizons. In a series of events and phone calls that culminate into what we now know is God's timing as always, Kelly signed on with a travel nursing agency in early September and began her first assignment in Ashland,  Kentucky not long after! What seemed almost too good to be true in the beginning has become an incredibly rewarding and exciting journey of growth and self-discovery- for the both of us! For the first time in our lives, we have learned to live individually, maintaining our own respective spaces and forging our own paths of navigating daily life without each other's constant company. Of course we still talk daily and visit each other when we can, but it has been a learning experience for the both of us. To be honest, it's been quite good for us. Her contract there expires at the end of January and after that, with a few prospects in mind...who knows? A wonderful, wonderful Christmas it will be; for the first time in two years, Kelly will finally have the day off, so we will all be able to enjoy the holiday together as a family. We are immensely blessed!

2016 was a good year for Grow Appalachia as well! I cannot believe that I've been there for 2 years! Time just continues to fly. This year, GA piloted a very successful USDA Summer Food Service Program, where almost 14,000 meals were served during the summer months of May-July. In addition, GA received a multi-year, USDA funded grant that will put five commercial kitchens in the eastern Kentucky region! (We applied for this grant three times, so third time really is a charm here!) For 2017 we will have more new partner sites than we've had in a long while. We're really looking forward to another good growing season!

And lastly, on a bit of a personal level for me, I have greatly enjoyed spending all but 2ish weeks of 2016 in a relationship with a wonderful, caring, loving, and godly man! The way he entered my life can only be described as, again, God's completely perfect timing (I would be happy to share the entire story if you're interested- it's a good one!). He has brought so much joy to my life. We are talking about our future, and while I'm not putting a timetable on things just yet, we are looking forward to what- and when- God will have for us next! Right now we're listening for His leading, so please continue to pray for us. And thank you- to all of those who have done so, and who have, in other ways, loved, supported, encouraged, and cared for us along the way!

The year certainly has not come without its share of difficulties and trials, but we have moved past them, knowing full well the love we have from our family, our friends, and our Lord is more than enough to help us weather any storms. All in all, though, it hasn't been bad at all.

May 2017 bring you peace, joy, and gratitude as you look to the prospect of a new year, with all of the potential possibilities and opportunities that await you. To God be the glory!

Christmas hugs and blessings to all of you,
Holly and Kelly ❤
