Settling...and re-settling
Hello friends. It's been a little while- again!
A lot has changed in a month, the most notable being that one week ago we were, in the wee hours of the morning, returning from our mission trip to the Dominican Republic. Before I get into a little detail, I want to encourage those who live in Berea to attend a 10:45am service at Berea Baptist in the weeks to come as the DR mission team will be giving a report on the trip. Ok, shameless plug over! :)
The trip was, in every sense of the word, incredible. When I first decided to go to the DR back in April I knew that it was going to be a leap of faith. Mission trips almost always are. I had no idea that shortly after that decision I would lose my job AND get engaged in a matter of weeks! The time leading up to the trip was exciting but I was almost constantly plagued by my job situation, or lack of job, really. What was going to happen, and more than that, who would hire someone only to have them leave for a week right after starting? The day before we left, I got a job offer and I accepted it!! More on that later...
Arriving in Jarabacoa I felt like I was where I was supposed to be. The news of my job had me completely at ease and I was 100% able to focus on the trip and what would take place. Playing games with the children during the day camp we had at the school reminded me of joy: children from ages 5-12 playing with their peers and learning about the Lord. I was singing the songs from camp every night when I went to sleep! Our last day more than 50 children came forward to receive Christ! It was amazing! The DR is beautiful- both in terms of nature and its people! Catalina, the day camp coordinator, gave me a big hug at the end of the camp and said to me, "You are an example of faith. Thank you." I have to admit it took a few days of adjusting when we got back.
What really made this trip special was sharing it with the man I'll be marrying in about four months. It was his first mission trip and I know it impacted him as much as it impacted me. We are going to be praying about future mission trips for us once we are married, but we both anticipate we will be returning to the DR in the future!

Ok, now that I have "re-settled" of sorts back from the Dominican Republic, I am settling into my new job as an Administrative Assistant in the College of Education Office of Student Success at EKU. Yes, it's a little bit of a mouthful! Today was my second day and I know I still have lots to learn, but so far I am enjoying it and it hasn't been *too* crazy! Ha! Part of my job, I'm learning already, is answering phone calls...a lot of them! When you call the EKU College of Education, guess who answers the phone? Me! Fielding those is taking- and will take- some getting used to but I am resting assured that all will come naturally in time. I kind of felt like Andy in The Devil Wears Prada where it's her first day and she answers her first phone call and it's so awkward and hilarious! Anyway, my co-workers are great and I love being a part of a small office! Oh, and I have my own office, which is really awesome. Yes, an office with a door and a window and my own space and everything. It really is the little things :)
As I told one of my new co-workers yesterday, 2017 has brought about a lot of changes for me, a lot of those still left to come. But I'm looking forward to this new season of settling in and learning and becoming a part of something, and somewhere, new!
