Living in the midst of COVID19, part 3
You can also read part one and part two.
Well folks, we have reached that critical moment....We need to go grocery shopping! The last time I went was two Saturdays ago, so I'm pleased that our food supply has lasted as long as it has. Maybe this will be a new normal?
One silver lining about being at home the majority of the time is the amount of gas money I've spent. I've filled up my car twice in almost a month: once on March 25th and the other time on April 13th. I've spent less than $40 combined those two times filling up the car. Granted, our car gets pretty good gas mileage to begin with, but still... I haven't seen prices this low ($1.64 this morning) in 4 years!
We also bought clothes for the first time in probably a couple of months 😂 My 30th birthday was last week so some of them were presents. Speaking of birthdays, I'm grateful that I was able to "celebrate" with Kelly before all of this started. She came down for a visit in early March and we spent the weekend getting pictures taken by our fantabulous photographer friend Ray. I'll cherish them for the rest of our lives. Other than that we hung out and just enjoyed the time together.
On the subject of birthday, I was gifted a few games from Justin. It's greatly enhanced our time together....And it turns out I'm not that great at Telepathy But I'll get there. On the other hand, we've also greatly enjoyed throwing soft burritos at each other. Families who have kids, you HAVE to get this game! Oh, and we're still playing Boggle all the time.
We had a crazy time over the weekend trying to find somewhere to get take-out for dinner, as many restaurants have now closed down for a short time. Honestly though, I get it, and I appreciate businesses in the community doing their part to "flatten the curve", as is commonly said. I do often think about how Berea/Richmond will look when all of this is over. Who will still be left standing after the dust settles?
I've become frustrated with posts on social media from people crying that their constitutional rights are being infringed upon. I even read that there were people protesting at the capital in Frankfort yesterday! I understand that people are worried about making ends meet and providing for their needs (Seriously, I HAVE BEEN THERE), but this is in no way an infringement on constitutional rights! This is about saving lives, and protecting those who can't protect themselves. I am more than willing to forgo some creature comforts for the greater good. It's as if people aren't willing to think about what could happen if someone they knew and loved came down with this virus. For me, it's something on my mind constantly, as both of my siblings are front line workers. I'm staying home as much as possible for them! It's not a hard decision. It shouldn't be. But I guess others see it differently, and we'll just have to agree to disagree.
I want to end this post with a few of the pictures of Kelly and I from her visit. Like I said, I'll cherish them forever.
