A Belated Christmas "Card"
Since it's the day after Christmas, and with New Year's right around the corner, I figured today I would share a "Christmas card" and 2018 wrap-up, as I will be in and out for the rest of the month and settling back into work starting January 2nd.
2018! What a year it has been!
The Rabnotts started out 2018 settling into our new home as a married couple. The first few weeks after our wedding in 2017 were hectic to say the least, so starting out the year in a space that was ours brought a bit of closure and peace to that time. On Martin Luther King weekend, we took a quick weekend trip over to St. Louis- in patches of snow and ice- to visit Justin's older brother, Adrian, who was in the States on business.
Berea received 8+ inches of snow in early March, and just after my birthday on April 9th, I found out I was going to be laid off from my administrative assistant job at Eastern Kentucky University, due to a University-wide "reduction in force" in an attempt to alleviate a $25 million budgetary shortfall. I finished out the month and May 15th was my last day.
Also in April we joined a life group at Eastside Community Church, and we genuinely look forward to every Sunday getting to know several couples who have become good friends in a very short amount of time.
Despite the layoff, May through early June was probably our most exciting month, as we packed our bags and traveled 9,000 miles away down under for two weeks in Australia, traveling up the coast, holding koalas, and visiting Justin's family. We had an amazing time, and are planning a Christmas 2020 visit.
Mid-July I started a new job as an Office Associate for the departments of Biology and Geosciences back at EKU. Pulling double duty has had its share of challenges, but I feel I've really grown and spread my wings with the skills I've garnered over the last few years.
Right before I started my new job, we took a weekend visit up to Cincinnati to see Evanescence and Lindsey Stirling in concert! It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience without question. Also, it was HOT.
In October, we visited Kelly up in Boston for a few days. We had some nibbles at the Cheers bar and walked a ton. She is thriving up there along with her roommate Brittany and the boys, Ben and Bear, 8 year old tabby cats she adopted in June. They are sweet and lovable, albeit a bit on the chunky side.
Most recently, we celebrated our first anniversary on the 16th and spent the weekend in Gatlinburg. Our cake was just as delicious as the day we cut it!
Justin is celebrating his fifth year at Fahe as a Network Administrator in January, and I will be starting graduate school on January 15th, pursuing a Masters degree in Student Personnel Services in Higher Education. Yoda and Wiley still continue to equally make us laugh and frustrate us, but they are happy and healthy. We have been at Eastside Community Church for over a year, and we just finished leading a 9 week session of Financial Peace University.
It has been quite a year, and we are looking forward to what God has in store for us in 2019. May you find joy and thankfulness in your hearts as you await 2019 and bid farewell to 2018.
