And so another new chapter begins!
A not-so-long time ago in a new job that seems so far away now, I had an itch I couldn't scratch. Or rather, the backscratcher was at hand and I was scratching, but the itch hadn't gone away yet. An itch to pursue additional education. I struck out the first time, but buckled down and took a placement test in October, after which I was shocked to discover I did surprisingly well. Not long after that, I reapplied for graduate school...second time is a charm, right?
YES IT IS!
I am so excited to announce that starting January 14, 2019, I will be starting the next chapter of my life as a graduate student at Eastern Kentucky University, pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Student Personnel Services in Higher Education (Yep, it's a mouthful, but I promise it's legit). A HUGE added blessing to this exciting opportunity is that as a part of my severance package from my last EKU job, my staff tuition waiver is still in effect and I will be graduating with this degree without any debt whatsoever!
For a long time I have dreamed of working- and staying!- in Higher Ed and I think this degree is a perfect fit and a perfect step in the right direction. As I've taken some early steps already, namely scheduling an appointment with my advisor to register for classes and filling out my waiver paperwork, I have come to realize that I have no idea how to "online class", as I say, or even PAY for classes for that matter (Which I don't have to, but it's all been a big dance in my head..."When do I turn in my paperwork? "Do I have to technically be in the class first?" I literally have NO idea! Ha!)
God is so good. I have an interesting six semesters ahead of me, and my routines and habits will no doubt have to change to accommodate this, but I feel ready and up for the challenge!
And after Fall 2020- hopefully!- I can add "MA" after my name! :)
